We just received word on the appeal we filed in response to the FAA’s determination allowing the installation of permanent 72’ stadium light poles at PLHS. Unfortunately, the FAA has ruled that the 72’ height of the light poles is not a risk for aircraft flying over the school during inclement and foggy weather.
However, the FAA obviously recognizes that there is a risk as they are requiring the installation of red blinking lights on top of each pole. This means there will be red blinking lights on top of the six 72’ stadium light poles 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year in residential Loma Portal!
Apparently the San Diego Airport Authority did an about-face and reversed their request to the FAA that a comprehensive light study be conducted and that light poles higher than 60’ would create an unacceptable incursion into the landing space of aircraft. Please see the attached FAA letter and circular referred to in the FAA letter for further details.
We are reviewing our options regarding the aviation matters and consulting with our legal team. We will keep you informed.
